Introduction

I present to you the Mists of Pandaria Guardian Gear Guide!

This guide is meant to provide yout with the "Best in Slot" options for each tier (Pre-Raid, 14, 15, etc.). Since there are two distinct methods of gearing (RPS and TDR) which are useful in different situations, the best option for reach will be shown below. There will be one post per set of gear (Pre-Raid, T14 Normal, T14 Heroic, etc.). LFR loot will be mostly ignored unless there's a specific item you need to know about (probably mostly trinkets).

I'll also make sure to point out any quest items that you'll want to make sure you pick up if you're levelling as something other than Feral or Guardian.

Blue PvP gear is entirely worthless. Purple PvP is better than dungeon gear, but not as good as raid gear.

Both Achloryn and Kaleri have taken passes at this information already - so feel free to look at those too.

In any case, on to the lists!

Pre-Raid Gear

For this list you'll note that I've revised it for max RPS. Normal mode raiding doesn't really have any EH checks, and is more about generating enough resources to spend on SD or FR. Note that when you combine the 463 items on this list you will be Hit and Expertise capped with the proper reforges. You'll have to switch them around as things are replaced (obviously).

Chestpieces

Boots

Gloves

Helms

Pants

Shoulders

Belts

Bracers

Cloaks

Amulets

Rings

Weapons

Trinkets - Survival

Trinkets - Mitigation

Trinkets - Rage Generation

Trinkets - Old

Tier 14 Normal/Heroic

When gearing for actual raids in T4, there are a couple of things you need to be aware of.

  • Get your 4pc bonus as soon as possible. It's incredibly amazing. The 2pc is not as awesome, but still potentially useful.
  • With the addition of Tooth and Claw in 5.1, Rage Generation stats are now the priority to the exclusion of almost anything else. In subsequent tiers Mastery and Dodge will increase in value.
  • This list of gear recommends capping Hit and Expertise. While the list itself is slanted more towards Crit (for maximum DPS as recommended for 10m), if you're a 25m Guardian you may want to slant more towards Haste for additional T&C procs.
  • This list doesn't account for item upgrades - since that is nearly impossible to do by hand. Remember to adjust your gems/enchants/reforges accordingly as you upgrade.
  • As always, GET ALL THE TRINKETS.

T-14 Normal

Tier 15 Normal/Heroic

When gearing for actual raids in T4, there are a couple of things you need to be aware of.

  • The 2pc bonus requires more micromanagement this time around, and the 4pc is like a mini-cooldown. Try to get them as soon as possible and learn to use them effectively.
  • Now that we have enough base RPS it's possible that a Mastery or RPS build can be effective. Both are included below. Feel free to pick whatever suits your playstyle, and mix/match accordlingly.
  • This list of gear recommends capping Hit and Expertise. There is no longer a reasonable reason to not do this.
  • This list doesn't account for item upgrades or Thunderforging - since that is nearly impossible to do by hand. Remember to adjust your gems/enchants/reforges accordingly as you upgrade.
  • As always, GET ALL THE TRINKETS.
  • All stats listed below each set of gear are raid buffed vs a level 93 mob. Talents and Racials are not included.

Tier 16 Normal/Heroic

  • The 2pc bonus is mostly used to extend SD uptime. Do not try to plan the heal ahead of time. The 4pc bonus is amazing, try to get it ASAP.
  • RPS build is by far the most effective.
  • This list of gear recommends capping Hit and Expertise. There is no longer a reasonable reason to not do this.
  • This list doesn't account for Warforging - since that is nearly impossible to do by hand. Remember to adjust your gems/enchants/reforges accordingly as you upgrade.
  • As always, GET ALL THE TRINKETS.
  • All stats listed below each set of gear are raid buffed vs a level 93 mob. Talents and Racials are not included.
  • These gear lists assume double upgrades, as they will be available at the start of SoO.

Never even looked at any beta data, so this might be an insanely stupid question ...

Are these insane socket bonuses correct? And if yes, i'd guess it's to make players actually match the colors, right?

No they're not.

Drop the last "1" off the end if they end in a "1".

Hmm, aren't you forgetting about PvP gear?
E.g. thanks to its socket, Dreadful Gladiator's Waistband of Cruelty is much better than Icewrath Belt - and that's the belt you can get with Honor points.

(And Isara, these are not the correct socket bonuses, they are currently broken in wowhead, e.g. the PvP belt I quoted above has a bonus of 60 Agility, not 601.)

Yes and no.

Historically I've left PvP gear out. I don't know when/how the stuff will actually be purchasable either, so I don't want to send people on a wild goose chase trying to get something they can't actually find.

Plus Guardians are shit in PvP.

OK. Although historically, PvP gear was a nice stepping stone, but never pre-raid BiS, except in very rare circumstances (e.g. DS neck). With the addition of secondary stats, this has changed.

Good point. I expect that everything but weapons will be purchasable tomorrow, as soon as you hit 90, but that is just an assumptions and should be verified.

True dat. But still better than bots 8-)

I'm totally not against adding it once I know where/how to get it. But I need confirmation first.

Translated: Look for updates this weekend.

So how accurate are the jem stats. I am showing stuff like 3200 dodge in one jem on wowhead. if that's accurate then the number of sockets become a huge factor in how good gear is.

Everything gem related is currently broken on wowhead.
Rule of thumb: if the number end in a "1", remove that "1". E.g. that 3201 dodge gem is actually just 320 dodge.

For gems, it's 320 of a secondary stat, 160 of a primary stat or 240 stamina. (And 160/80/90 for hybrids.)
Socket bonuses are usually 60 of a stat per socket, with some exceptions.

Good to hear, for a while I was thinking something was really broken BC Guildox was using the extra high jem stats for a bit and really messing up the gear recommendations

Last belt should be: [Ghost Fox Belt]not [Ghost Fox Spaulders].

BTW how do you do Item Links here? Yours seem to be just HTML which I can't copy.

Cogwheels are unique-equipped so you must make the dragonling of 3 different stats. This also makes it worse for engineer since once you get your helm you then have to have 5 different cogs.
